K2[PtCl6] is more stable than K2[NiCl6].Why?

As we move from top to bottom in periodic table ,size of metal increases. Ni (IV) &  Pt (IV) both form octahedral complex but  Ni form outer orbital complex sp3d2  .  Pt form inner orbital complex d2sp3 . So  , stability of Pt (IV) is more stable .

Hi frnd......Stability of complexes can be checked through the concept of Effective Atomic Number. It can also be checked by the relation given in the crystal field theory D = -0.4x + 0.6yWhere,D= Crystal Field Stabilizing Energyx= no of t2g(ie dxy, dyz, dzx) electronsy= no of eg(ie dz^2, dx^2-y^2) electronsHope u like my answer
