Kinds of problems faced by our leaders in integrating princely states
Pls answer this its urgent

Dear Student,

The problems faced by our leaders in integrating the princely states were twofold:
  • Of transformation of the states into feasible administrative units.
  • Of their absorption into constitutional units.
At the time of India’s independence proclamation, Britain made a clause that princely states can either join India or Pakistan, or remain independent, which created much confusion:
  • The rulers of princely states never imagined to give away their power under Indian constituent Assembly.
  • Different administrative methods were followed by these princely states like aristocratic with strong differences within the states, with people having different mind-sets, opinions and culture.
  • Princely states also started asking for independence after the lapse of British rule.
  • Arguments were there that post British withdrawal lawlessness and anarchy would prevail in princely states and it is important for it to be associated with a centre of power to control the situation.
  • Hundreds of independent states would emerge which would make the struggle of independence pointless.
  • Thus the integration of princely states became an issue for Indian leaders.
