LiF,LiCl,LiBr,LiI.Give the order of solubility in water.Explain me how to do it?

order of solubility...

LiBr>LiCl>LiI>LiF

  • LiF has the highest lattice enthalpy and hence is least soluble in water.Further Li+ and F- are hard ions.Favorable hard -hard interaction overcomes solubility.
  • LiBr and LiCl are more soluble because of less facored interaction as Br- and Cl- are not hard ions.
  • LiI is less soluble than LiBr and LiCl due to the large size of I becaues of which the hydration of I- is poor and so the hydration energy is very less.
