- The Earth moves in an elliptical orbit that requires 365 1/4 days. The axis of the Earth's spin is tilted with reference to the orbital plane and this tilt causes seasons. Because of this reason, different parts of the Earth receive different amount of sunlight at different times of the year, and hence experience the change in the seasons.
- When an axis faces the sun, it is summer in the respective hemisphere. When the axis faces away the sun, the given hemisphere experiences winter.
