Conscience is something that keeps every person straight. We always have that voice in our heads that keeps us correcting whenever we do anything wrong. And it is true that sub-consciously at some level we know we are doing wrong. Both Aram and Mourad were clueless about what they were doing and out of innocence they didn't even have a hint that they were indirectly stealing the horse. Had it been in their knowledge, their conscious would've warned them not to do it.
