Lysosome in amoeba

In Amoeba, lysosome play an important role in digestion. Amoeba are single-celled organisms. They receive nutrition by engulfing the food particle by the process called phagocytosis. The ingested food particle is present inside a vacuole inside the cell. The lysosome inside the cell then migrates towards the vacuole and fuses with it. This causes the enzymes in lysosome to act on the food particle and break it down so as to make it into the forms in which it can be used.
