The voice in a sentence- Active voice and Passive voice- relates to its verb. A transitive verb can be in the active or passive voice.

When the subject of the verb acts or is the doer of the action, the verb is said to be in the Active voice .

For e.g. The cameraman shot the scene. The subject of this sentence(cameraman) is the doer of the action(shot). Therefore, the verb is in the Active voice.

When the subject of the verb receives the action or is acted upon, the verb is said to be in the Passive voice .

For e.g. The scene was shot by the cameraman. The subject of this sentence(scene) receives the action(shot). Therefore, the verb is in the Passive voice.

It is important to be able to identify the subject, object and verb in a sentence as a prerequisite to transformation of Active to Passive Voice and vice versa.

Transformation of Active to Passive voice involves a change in the structure of the sentence, not its meaning.

- The place of the subject and object is interchanged from active to passive voice.
For example:

Ram reads a book.(active)
A book is read by Ram.(passive)

- Past participle(third form of the verb) is used in passive sentences and the word 'by' is usually used in front of the subject.
For example: A beautiful song is sung by Lata.

- The use of auxiliary verbs in passive voice depends on the tense of the sentence.
