Magnesium is the only metallic element present in chlorophyll. Analysis of chlorophyll revealed that it contains 0.04% of metal. Determine the minimum possible molar mass of Chlorophyll

Dear Student,

Magnesium is present in the chlorophyll. It form complex with porphyrin ring. For minimum molar mass it is assumed that there is 1 atom of magnesium per molecule of the chlorophyll.

Therefore 1 mole of magnesium atom is equal to the 1 mole of the chlorophyll molecule.

1 mole of magnesium = 1 mole of chlorophyll

molar mass of chlorophyll ×0.04100 = 24Molar mass of chlorophyll  = 24×1000.04Therefore molar mass of chlorophyll = 6×104 uRegards
