 Monsoon can be considered both boon and bane:

a. Growth and development of Indian agriculture is dependent on the amount and distribution of monsoon rainfall.
b. The Kharif crops (Autumn crops) like Rice, Millet, pigeon-pea, barley etc are sown at the onset of monsoon season .
c. It influences the cropping pattern of the country. Farmers rely on monsoons for the sustenance of their crops.
d. Western depressions causes rainfall in the north western part of the country in winters, which is ideal for wheat cultivation.
e. Monsoon rains are very important as they account for large amount of our water supply.
f. Monsoon also has great cultural significance in our country and acts as a unifying bond.
g. Several festivals are celebrated welcoming the monsoonal rainfall in India.
h. Monsoon gives relief from the scorching heat. The entire life of the Indian people revolves around the monsoon.

 It can also have a detrimental impact:

a. The dry and wet spells of the monsoons vary in strength, frequency and duration causing floods  in many regions
b. Western disturbances  are the moisture laden cyclones originating over Mediterranean sea  also impact the coastal region, leading to tropical cyclones creating havoc.
c. Further, erratic rainfall also impacts the harvest and may completely  destroy the crops
