Many historians have called the revolt of 1857 the first war of independence? Do you agree? Please suggest me reasons that supports this answer.

Yes it was the first war of independence because :
It almost sweeped the power of Britishers .
It affected many regions unlike any other uprising.
It was marked with unity between Hindus and Muslims.
It resisted the British power with traditional weapons.
It was a mass movement in which people from peasants to landlords participated.

yes because no such big revolt was taken by the people before 1857 to end up the british rule so  we can say that it was the first war of independence

yes, i also agree to this because it was first major attempt made by indians for their independence and rights. every part of our country this time was in its full potential for freedom

and no too because in second chapter it is written that tipu sultan have 4 big war with britises  to get independence

1. people from all walks of life participated in this battle.
