Mass and weight difference

Dear Student
Mass is defined as the amount of matter contained in a body. It is a fundamental quantity that all objects possess. For a particular body its mass will always remain constant irrespective of where its kept.

It's SI unit is kilogram (kg).

Weight is defined as the force acting on an object under the influence of gravitational field. So it tells us the amount of gravitational force acting on the object. Weight of an object is not a constant and depends upon the strength of the  gravitational force and where it is kept.

It's SI unit is Newton (N).
