It is also called as golgi bodies or golgi complex . It is composed of membrane-bound fluid filled vesicles , vacuoles and stack of many flattened closed sacs . But in plant cell they are distributes throughout the cytoplasm and are called dictyosomes . In animals, they are larger and one or two in no. while in plant cells they are small and more in number. The membranes of golgi apparatus often have connections with the membranes of endoplasmic reticulum through ER vesicles. The synthetic products of a cell I.e.,proteins, hormones and enzymes are secreted by the golgi apparatus
Functions:
•It helps in formation of cell plate during cell division
•It is involved with the synthesis and modification of proteins ,lipids and carbohydrates
•Thr material synthesised near the ER is packaged and dispatched to various targets inside and outside the cell through the golgi apparatus
•It is involved in the synthesis of lysosomes and peroxisomes
•It also forms complex sugars from simple sugars
•It also helps in storage , modification and packaging of products in vesicles
