mention the geographical extents of Himalayas.

Dear Student,

a. The Great Himalayas are basically the young fold mountains that have come into existence because of convection currents and compressional forces. The mountains are the highest mountain ranges of the World. 
b. They cover a distance of about 2,400 km and  form an arc which basically extends from Kashmir to Arunachal.
c. Their width also varies ranging from 400km to 150km.
d. Further, Himalayas border Hindu Kush and karakoram ranges in the North west and Tibetan plateau on the North. To the south lies Indo Gangetic plains.

d. These mountain ranges are parallel and consist of three parallel ranges namely Himadri,Himachal or lesser Himalayas and the Shiwaliks. The Himalayas  are separated by intervening valleys and plains.
e. Himadri - It is the northernmost range comprising  of lofty peaks. It  has an average height of 
6,000 metres.
f. Himachal- To the south of Himadri lies Himachal comprising of rugged mountains with an height of 3,700 and 4,500 metres​.
g. Shiwalik- It is the outermost range, comprising of hills with an height of 900 to 1100 metres. They are basically the result of unconsolidated sediments.
