On basis of position there are three types of meristem which are as follows:
- Apical meristem- It is present at the apices of root, stem, branches. Its function is to increase length of plant.
- Intercalary meristem- It is found in the node regions and is found in monocots. Function: Elongation of internodes.
- Lateral meristem- As it's name suggests, it is present longitudinally to stem and root. It's function is: thickening of stem and root by producing secondary permanent tissue.
