Meritnation Experts please help me in this question ,its urgent, actually i want to that if either and niether comes then we have to see which subject 1st or 2nd. for example => Niether the teacher nor the students ------ in the school AND Either the boys or the girl ------ going in the wrong direction.
Dear student
According to subject verb agreement, in a sentence that uses "neither-nor" or "either-or", the verb will agree with the number of the closest subject.
Hence the answer is,
- Neither the teacher nor the students are in the school - the closest subject is 'students' and therefore the verb agrees with its number.
Similarly, the second answer is,
- Either the boys or the girl is going in the wrong direction.
Although this sentence sounds awkward, it is grammatically correct. Such sentences are usually restructured to make them sound less awkward. for example: Either the girl or the boys are going in the wrong direction.
