Pneumonia, HIV AIDS are examples of infectious diseases. This is because they occur through the entry of infectious agents such as virus, bacteria etc. into the body.

Pneumonia is the lung infection characterised by the inflammation of the alveoli in the lungs. It can be caused by bacteria & viruses. The most common bacteria causing it is Streptococcus pneumoniae.  Pneumonia spreads through airborne droplets from a cough or sneeze. It may also spread by direct contact with an infected person, or by contaminated objects.  

HIV-AIDS is caused by virus. It affects the immunity of a person.

c. Infectious diseases are caused mainly by microorganisms like bacteria, virus, protozoan. These agents can be transmitted through air, water, food, touch etc. 

Other causes include 
  • Direct contact with a diseased person or animal
  • Insect (vectors) bites
  • Consumption of contaminated food
