metals are good conductors of electricity wheereas non metals are not .give reason

Metals have free electrons which helps them in the conduction of electricity whereas non metals have no free electrons which makes them a poor conductor of electricity.

Moreover, when electicity is passed through a metallic wire these free elections move in a particular direction to conduct the flow of charges which helps in conduction of electricity.

However some exceptions are there.Such as graphite being a non metal is a good conductor of electricity and are also used as electrodes..

Hope this helps U..........

metals are good conducters of electricity.this is a property of the metals.metals have free electrons.these electrons move under the influence of applied electric field thus metals behave as a good conducter of electricity.but, absence of free electron make non-metals insulators.non-metal do not possess free electrons and so do not conduct electricity ........

i think it may help you.....

I have answered above........

Sorry to say that spelling of whereas you have written is wrong.....................

Above answers are well written.

In metals there are delocalized electrons that are free to roam about the entire metal lattice. In the absence of applied field, these free electrons move randomly, but when voltage is applied they experience an attractive force towards the positive terminal, and drift towards it to constitute electric current.

Non-metals do not have these free electrons as their electrons are tightly bound to nucleus. Moreover most non-metals exist as liquids and gases at room temperature.

However there is exception. Non-metals of group 14 Carbon(graphite), Silicon, Germanium, etc are used as semiconductors by doping. Even Blue diamond (carbon doped with boron impurity) conducts little electricity. But their conductivity is very little at room temperature. They are mainly used in diodes, LED, transistors, etc
