Motion: moral values are diminishing in today's society.
please give me a debate that supports this motion. I need it with strong arguments .
Respected principal, teachers, and my dear friends wish you all a very good morning.
Today I have received an opportunity to express my view on the degrading moral values in today’s so called modern society.
Our society is changing. It is moving towards modernization. Life is taking fast pace after technological development. In this fast moving world, sometimes we are taking so hasty steps that we are leaving behind those moral values which were once considered to be the esteem of a cultured society. Human beings try to enjoy their life to the fullest and so they are linking their life with materialistic pleasures. This materialism is the major cause for the diminishing moral values.
In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde tells us of the gradual downfall of a man from innocence to corruption. Man‘s is degrading himself day by day. His thought process is changing towards the fulfillment of his own selfish interests. Now a day we rarely find a joint family. The numbers of nuclear families are growing. We know charity begins at home. However, in today’s world most parents are working and so the children are left behind in the hands of some the governess. Lack of proper guidance is preventing children from having good moral education. The power of judgments between the right and the wrong is void now. People have forgotten to give respect to others ideas or opinion. The young generation seldom gives value to the elders. Today’s society is media dominated. Somewhere in the back of the mind everyone desires popularity, and therefore there is a tendency of appreciating popular figures and following their lifestyle blindly. If something unethical is presented in media as ethical, it spreads like an epidemic in the society. Unfortunately young ones are the most affected ones. Youths are following them forgetting their real culture.
It’s good that we are advance. However we should not forget our roots. We should carry with us our moral values. Advancement without moral values cannot bring completeness to the society. it will not move forward our society.
