Name and define the two types of waves on the basis of direction of particles of oscillatory
motion. Also give one example.

Dear student,
Two types of waves on the basis of the direction of the particles of oscillatory motion are as follows-
1. Transverse waves- The waves in which particles of the medium travel in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the wave travels are known as transverse waves. eg- vibrations on a string and formation of ripples on the surface of water.
2. Longitudinal waves- The types of waves in which the particles of the medium oscillate in a direction parallel to the direction of the propagation of the waves, are called longitudinal waves. eq- a sound wave is significant example of this.
Regards.
