Name and describe the environmental problem that arises due to increase in concentration of carbon dioxide and methane.

Dear Student, The environmental problem that arises due to increase in concentration of carbon dioxide and methane is known as Global warming. Global warming is defined as an increase in the average temperature of theEarth’s surface. Causesof global warming: Globalwarming occurs as a result of the increased concentration ofgreenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases include carbondioxide, methane, and water vapour. These gases trap solar radiationsreleased back by the Earth. This helps in keeping our planet warm andthus, helps in human survival. However, an increase in the amount ofgreenhouse gases can lead to an excessive increase in the Earth’stemperature, leading to global warming. Globalwarming is a result of industrialization, burning of fossil fuels, and deforestation. Effectsof global warming: Global warming isdefined as an increase in the average temperature of the Earth’ssurface. It has been observed that in the past three decades, the average temperature of the Earth hasincreased by 0.6ºC. As a result, the natural water cycle hasbeen disturbed resulting in changes in the pattern of rainfall. Italso changes the amount of rain water. Also, it results in themelting of Polar ice caps and mountain glaciers, which has caused arise in the sea level, leading to the inundation of coastal regions. Controlmeasures for preventing global warming: (i) Reducingthe use of fossil fuels (ii) Useof bio-fuels (iii) Improvingenergy efficiency (iv) Useof renewable source of energy such as CNG etc. (v) Reforestation. (vii) Recyclingof materials.
