right hand thumb rule or right hand palm rule is used for determining the direction of force around a straight conductor 
according to this rule , if you are holding the conductor with the palm of your right hand ,such that the thumb pointsin the direction of flow of current then the direction in which fingres curl around the conductor ,gives the direction of magnetic line of force
