Name the compound with explaination

Dear Student,
There are 2 substituents on the benzene ring OH and CH3 . The numbering will be done as per the preference Since OH comes on top of the preference list we will start from C substituted with OH.
So the complete name will be o-methyl phenol  or 2-methyl phenol.

This is because functional group gets first priority in any organi compound so we have to keep this mind the single rule of long chain and shortest position and that the functional group gets more priority moreover the maximum priority is of carboxylic group then alcohol and then aldehyde
