Name the following- (2) (i) Uninucleate and spindle shaped cells found in the bronchus of the lungs. (ii) The non-living component of phloem tissue.
Solution:
2(i) The bronchi of lungs are made up of smooth muscles which is responsible for the movement of lungs during inhalation and exhalation. The cells of these smooth muscles are spindle shaped and contains only single nucleus (uninucleate). Hence, the answer is smooth muscle cells.
2(ii) Phloem tissue is responsible for transporting organic substances, such as sugars, from the leaves to other parts of the plant. Pholem fibres are elongated, spindle-shaped cells with thick cell walls and are found in the complex tissue phloem. They provide mechanical strength to the tissue. These are the only dead tissue amongst all elements of phloem. Hence, the answer is Pholem fibres.
