Universal Adult Franchise that is the right to vote was initially applicable to men of higher strata of society. All women, and men belonging to the poor classes were excluded from the right. It was during the First World War that the cry to extend the right to every adult of the nation, irrespective of gender and economic class grew. This was because women now had to do all the work that the men in their families did as they were at warfronts. This movement is called the Women's Suffrage Movement.
