Mitochondria is double membranes bag like structures outer membrane is a smooth whereas the inner membrane is thrown into finger like prosesses called Cristea contains enzymes needed for aerobic oxidation of glucose.ATP is known as the powerhouse of the cell. The body use energy stored in ATP for making new chemical compounds and for mechanical work.

Dear student, I agree with the answer that Rabindra Kumar Panda has given but along with the mitochondria the chemical recations also take place in the cytoplasm as they contain many enzymes. For example: reactions of glycolysis take place in the cytoplasm. Regards
