1. the central highlands are wider in the west and narrower in the east. the central highlands lies toward the north of the narmada river which cover the malwa plateau as well. 

2. the deccan plateau is a triangular landmass that lies to the south of the river narmada. three prominent hills range from west to east are the garo, the khasi and the jaintia hills
