Name the type of sugar guanine is attached to?

Your friend is correct.
Guanine is attached to ribose sugar in RNA while it is attached to deoxyribose sugar in DNA.

Its obviously, "Deoxyribose sugar or Ribose sugar".
Nitrogenous bases like, Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and Thymine are attached to deoxyribose sugar.
Adenine, Guanine and Cytosine can also remain attached to "Ribose sugar".
But, in case of Ribose sugar, Thymine is Replaced by Uracil Nitrogenous Base.
Hope it helps :-)
