narratar buyed the roll top desk because the desk was very cheap and  new roll top desk comes very expensive so the narrator thought to buy the old roll top desk as it was in very bad conditon he thought he could repair it and make it new

Because it was the narrator was forced to buy a roll top desk from the junk shop because he had to buy one but they were far too expensive.so he had to buy it.The roll-top desk was made of oak wood and it was what the author had wanted. But the desk was badly out of shape and needed repairs. The author knew that a new desk would cost him a fortune and so he decided to buy it
