 Reaction of benzene with acetyl chloride in the presence of a Lewis acid such as (anhydrous aluminium chloride, AlCl3, ) gives acetophenone.



b) to convert methane to toluene:
first methane is converted to methyl chloride and the by friedel craft reaction  toluene is obtained:

Methane with chlorine in the presence of ultraviolet light or high temperature 573-773 K gives chloromethane

CH4 + Cl2 CH3Cl + HCl 

CH3Cl + FeCl3 CH3+ + FeCl4+
CH3+ + FeCl4+ + Benzene Toluene + HCl- + FeCl3

6. To convert methane to ethane:
MEthane is converted into methylchloride and then Wurtz reaction is done to convert it into ethane.
