Short answer type Question
Q. Define horizontal component of earth's magnetic field (H). Explain whether the value of H be the same everywhere on earth's surface?
Dear Student
The horizontal component of earth's magnetic field is the projection of earth's magnetic field on surface of the earth
The horizontal component of earth's magnetic field is the projection of earth's magnetic field on surface of the earth
The total magnetic field on the surface of the earth can be resolved into horizontal component He and vertical component Ve. The angle made by Be with He is the angle of dip δ and are related as
Hence,He = Be cos δ
As angle of dip is different at different place hence the value of horizontal component of earth;s magnetic field is different at different place.
