note on hemodialysis

Dear student,
Hemodialysis is one of the long-term therapies available in chronic kidney failure. It is used instead of, or as an adjuvant to kidney transplant.
A hemodialysis machine contains a hypotonic fluid with all normal constituents of blood except the wastes: creatinine, urea called dialysate. The blood is removed from the body into the dialysing machine where the temperature is reduced and urea and other metabolic wastes pass passively into the dialysate through a semi-permeable membrane. The blood is then heated to body temperature and pumped back into the body.
Hemodialysis is usually an inpatient procedure as the machine is large and expensive. However, newer techniques have made it possible to perform dialysis in outpatient wards as well. Peritoneal fluid can also be dialysed using a pouch which is attached to the body and is portable.
Hemodialysis increases life expectancy by 4-10 years. In cases of chronic kidney failure or complete kidney failure at a younger age, kidney transplant is indicated instead of depending on dialysis.
Regards!

Haemodialysis actually are the artificial kidneys which are required when the human"s actual kidneys are not functioning properly . Artificial kidneys contain a number of tubes with a semi-permeable lining , suspended in tank filled with dialysing fluid .During this passage the wase products from the blood pass into dialysing fluid by diffusion then purified blood is pumped back into the patient"s/human"s body .
