Exaplain this- a roadside stand

The roadside signs that mark the directions of North or South, as seen by the people travelling by cars, are usually pointing in the wrong directions. They find these signs irritable and feel they spoil the beauty of the natural surroundings. It goes along with the poem's larger theme of poor country people who are despised and ignored by the wealthier, more sophisticated urbanites.
