"Once some beetles flew in; but nobody paid any attention to them, not even the littlest ones who worked right on tracing their fish hooks as if that was French too."

Explain the above lines.
Who are the 'littlest ones' mentioned here?

Dear Student,

In the chapter 'The Last Lesson', when Franz got to know that it was their last French lesson, he sat very attentive in class and understood the entire lesson. Everyone was so busy doing their French exercises that no one paid attention to the insects that flew in through the window. The littlest ones are the children of the class who were doing their French exercises.
