One of the major difficulties in the biological control of insect pests is that [CBSE PMT 1995]

A) The predator develops a preference to other diets and may itself become a pest

B) The predator does not always survive when transferred to a new environment

C) The method is less effective as compared with the use of insecticides

D) The practical difficulty of introducing the predator to specific areas

ans is given as B but somewhere else it is A so please tell correct one! and explain

Dear Student, The basis of various biological control methods is on the concept of predation. Predation is a biological interaction between the predator and the prey, whereby the predator feeds on the prey. Hence, the predators regulate the population of preys in a habitat, thereby helping in the management of pest insects. The most appropriate and suitable answer is option 'A'. It is due to the fact that when a new predator is introduced it develops an habit of consuming only one type of prey population, thereby in this, they allow other preys to increase, which creates issues again. It is not always the case, where predator species die (option B). Therefore, most appropriate one is option A. Regards
