What is orbital velocity of a body?

How is it independent of mass of the body?

Dear Student!

The orbital velocity of a body is the velocity with which it orbits around the planet.

Orbital speed and time period of satellite

Orbital speed − Speed required to put the satellite into a given orbit around earth

Let

ME = Mass of earth

RE = Radius of earth

h = Height of the satellite

v = Orbital speed of the satellite

m = Mass of the satellite

r = RE + h = Radius of the orbit of the satellite

The satellite revolves around the planet in a circular orbit; the gravitational pull provides the required centripetal force to the satellite.

The value of g on the surface of earth is given by,

This is clearly independent of the mass of both the bodies.
