People of city differ in emotions with those of village. Express your views in context of A Portrait Of A Lady.

It is absolutely true there is quite a marked difference between the city and village people in respect of emotions. People living in villages are more emotional than those living in the cities. Socialism, gregariousness, social interaction, and spiritual values among village people is also higher than those among the city people.

In the chapter The Portrait of A Lady by Khushwant Singh, we saw this difference. The grandmother was happier in village; she used to accompany her grandson to school adjoining the village temple every day; there she would read scriptures and when the school ended for the day, she would escort her grandson back home. On the way she would feed the stray dogs with stale chapatis.

On the contrary, when she along with the author was called to the city, she became confined to her room only. She could not go out because people ususally remained busy and engrossed in their own works. She became lonelier and more confined in the city than she was in the village.

Thus, we see people of city differ in emotions from those of villages.
