Pigment present in the paraflagallar body of euglena

The pigment is  astaxanthin. It is apresent in paraflagellar body attached to the base of flagella.
Astaxanthin  is a carotenoid. It belongs to a  class of phytochemicals known as terpenes
It  act as photosensitive organ and direct the euglena towards light.
