 ions like cl- move along with sodium passively with out utilizing concentration gradient hence no energy is required.
 Ion absorption and water absorption are two different movements  which occur simultaneously, 
 ion absorption is supported by diffusion ,ion exchange,donnan equilbrium(Gibbs Donnan effect is a behaviour of ionic particles which sometimes fails to distribute equally across the semi permeable membrane)
But passive absorption is not by osmosis.
