In the story, we notice that Mr and Mrs Hall find themselves in a spooky situation when they enter the room of the scientist. Here's what happened:
The couple was shocked because the scientist's room's door would normally be bolted yet this time it wasn't. Mr Hall saw that the door was left unbolted. The two of them saw the weird scientist's garments scattered in the room. They associated his absence with the unbolted main door of the inn. While they were examining the scene, Mr and Mrs Hall saw the garments assemble themselves. A seat flew through the air and pushed Mrs Hall out of the room. . Abruptly she was assaulted by the cap on the bedpost too. After seeing such a sight they discovered the space to be spooky or something to that effect. She left accepting ghosts are responsible for this peculiar and unnerving occurrence
