Please answer g to i bit. Chapter is conservation of plants and animals

Solution:

g. The next generation will not be able to enjoy the services provided by forests if deforestation continues to occur at fast rate. Cutting down of forests means depletion of wonderful plants and animals inhabiting here. The next generation will not be able to see the existing flora and fauna. Deforestation increases the rate of water and air pollution. Forests are replaced by factories and industries which generate polluting gases and waste products. The next generation will not get a clean environment to live in.

h. Deforestation leads to the depletion of water table. The trees help in prevention of running of water by allowing the soil to absorb the flowing water. This water percolates down and groundwater level rises. However, when trees are cut, water runs off quickly as soil is unable to absorb the flowing water. Thus, water does not percolate down and groundwater level depletes.

i. Trees and plants form a barrier to the flow of water on land. Trees help in slowing down the flow of the water. This water takes away the topsoil with it when this soil is not strongly bound. Roots bind the soil and prevent it from getting washed away by water. When trees and plants are not present. soil is eroded causing soil erosion. Hence, deforestation leads to soil erosion which in turn increases the risk of cyclones.

The trees helps in maintaining water cycle in nature. They absorbs water from the soil and distributes it in the atmosphere by the process of transpiration. The accumulation of these water vapors in the atmosphere is one of the reason of rainfall. Now in the absence of trees this process does not take place and leads to low rainfall. Thus, causes drought in that area.
