Valli should not have taken the journey without letting her mother know about it. However, we can never disapprove of the fact that journeys are a great addition to our experience of life. Valli’s journey to city added to her vision of life. From a carefree, bubbly person at the beginning of her journey, she was transformed to an enlightened and mature person. She learnt that there were so many things that happened in life beyond our knowledge.

According to me she was right when she didn't told her mother about her trip as if her mother would be known to this then she might haven't got a chance to fulfil her desire.
Valli was smart enough to deal with all kinds of people, as she behaved like an elderly mature girl on the bus. Like she didn't took drivers help, later she didn't be friendly to the bettle nut chewing ugly woman, also she didn't get down the bus in city and she asked the driver for giving her the ticket after she'd paid money.
