Dear student,

Two like poles repel each other while two opposite poles attract. So S - N poles attract each other while N - N and S - S poles repel.

So here in Figure a) The two magnets move towards each other as S - N poles attract while in figure b),c) the magnets tend to  move away from each other as there we have like poles.
