a. The plant is kept in dark initially to de-starch the leaves so that the quantity of synthesis of starch during exposure to light can be compared with the covered portion of the leaf.
b. Part A will turn blue-black after the starch test while part B will not change color. This is because the green part i.e. part A will perform photosynthesis and there will be synthesis of starch in it. On the other hand, part B will not perform photosynthesis and hence, there will be no starch synthesis in it.
