Please answer the following question :

Shown in the figure are the velocity time graphs of the two particles P1 and P2. Which of the following statements about their relative motion is true? Magnitude of their relative velocity: (consider 1-D motion)

(A) is zero
(B) is non-zero but constant
(C) continuously decreases
(D) continuously increases

Dear student,

Since the shape of velocity- time graph represents acceleration, therefore the correct answer of the above is option D. This is because if velocity is constant then acceleration of the particle should be zero. In that case the graph should have been parallel to the x axis. But since the slope of the graph is continuously so the magnitude of velocity is also increasing and hence the acceleration of the particles is also increasing.

Thanks and regards.
