Dear Student

a. (C) Mycoplasma
Smallest cell is Mycoplasma (PPLO-Pleuro pneumonia like organisms) about 10 micrometer in size. The largest cells is an egg cell of ostrich.

b. (A) Gram positive
Gram staining procedure is based on the principle of the ability of microorganisms to retain color of the stains used during the gram staining process. Gram-positive bacteria retain purple color after staining. They are not decolorized by treatment with alcohol. Whereas gram-negative bacteria are decolorized by the alcohol and lose purple color. When again stained with the second stain, they retain pink color.
This is due to the difference in the cell wall component of both the bacteria.

c. (A) fission Common mode of reproduction in bacteria is binary fission.

d. (D) Bacteria and plant cells possess DNA, RNA and cell wall. Bacteria being a prokaryote lacks membrane bounded nucleus. Their genetic material is present in undefined nuclear region in the cytoplasm is called as nucleoid.

e. (D) F factor is an extra nuclear DNA found in E. coli. It is also called as fertility factor. It is used to transfer genes from one bacterium to another bacterium by conjugation. F factor in E. coli is also called as sex factor. Episome is also called as plasmid. It is an extra nuclear DNA found in many bacteria.
