  1. Gusty waves - privileged children are like gusty waves. Children and waves are compared.
  2. Sealed in with a lead sky - the grey sky is dull and depressing like the future of slum children
  3. Stars of words- refers to great works by writers like Shakespeare
  4. Future's painted with a fog- the future of children is like fog - unclear
  5. from fog to endless night - the future of children is without any hope 
  6. Let their tongues / run naked into books - refers to giving the opportunity to slum children to experience the variety of life as given in books. To experience the world outside slums
  7. Whose language is the sun - refers to children who live in happy and pleasant surroundings.
