Here i have answered first question
Acceleration and retardation both are the rate of change of velocity. Acceleration the rate of increment of velocity whereas retardation is the rate of decrement of velocity. Hence magnitude-wise both are same quantity but differer in signs(positive for acceleration and negative for retardation)
