Ch -9 vital village and thriving towns , history

Dear Student

Irrigation is the practice of supplying water to crops through canals, wells, and waterways. The amount of water supplied to crops is extremely important as excess water can also damage crops.

Some 2500 years ago round structures with rows of pots, or ceramic rings arranged on top of one-another were found through archaeological discoveries. These structures were known as ring wells.
1. It was basically a type of well constructed in village for common use.
2. Water from these wells had multiple uses apart from drinking and washing purposes; in some places as toilets and as drains and garbage dumps in another.

Shrine is any holy place dedicated to martyr or any deity etc.

Monasteries are places (buildings, caves or hutments) where monks or nuns of a particular faith live. They either live and pray in groups or solitarily in these monasteries. Monks and nuns of faiths such as Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity live all their lives in monasteries having dedicated their lives to spiritual pursuits. These monasteries found patronage from rulers, rich merchants and common man.
