1. REVERSE OSMOSIS: A WATER PURIFICATION TECHNIQUE
increased level of water pollutants is leading to contamination of water. So Reverse Osmosis is generally used to purify water these days. Find out more about the process and, prepare an attractive report on colourful A4 sheets (5 to 6 pages). Systematically record your findings, covering the following points
i. What is reverse osmosis?

Dear student,

As we know that osmosis is defined as the movement of solvent from a region of its high concentration to a region of its lower concentration through a semi permeable membrane. This flow will continue till the equilibrium is attained. This flow of solvent can be stopped if we apply a pressure known as the osmotic pressure on the side of the solution (that has lower concentration of solvent than the other side).
Reverse osmosis is exactly opposite to the process of osmosis. Reverse osmosis is defined as the movement of pure solvent from the solution side that has both solute and solvent and hence is lower in concentration of solvent to its higher concentration where only sovent is present provided that an external pressure is applied on the solution side which is greater than the osmotic pressure.

I have answered your first question. Kindly ask the other queries in a separate thread.

Thanks and regards.
