Please help me with this question

Dear Student,
South American people speak Spanish except Brazil because all the other nations of south America were the colonies of Spain whereas Brazil was a former colony of Portugal ,so Portuguese is spoken there.
People in most of North America and Australia speak English because countries of North America and Australia were the colonies of England, where English was the dominant language.
Many people in North Africa speak French because many countries of North Africa were colonies of France where french was the dominant language.
